Just in - Michael Brecker has died

Ronnie Foster just called me with the sad news that the legendary jazz sax player Michael Brecker (11 Grammys) has succumbed to his long battle with cancer.

We have lost a great, great musical artist. My heart goes out to his family. More on Michael here.

It was early in 1986, I had just moved to Burlington VT from Seattle, had been there about 2 weeks and was feeling really sorry for myself - thought I had moved to the middle of nowhere and totally away from any modern culture, especially music. WRONG - saw a poster for a Friday night gig at a local club, went solo, and the band was Michael on his tenor and EWI, Mike Stern, Kenny Kirkland (also no longer with us), Adam Nussbaum, and a killer bass player whose name eludes me at this point. Those boys blew me out the door, I'll never forget that night.

We'll miss you Michael -
