When The Curtain Goes Up...

NOTE: FOR CHAMPLIN TOUR UPDATES, SCROLL DOWN.
___

The artwork is in (thanks, Tony!), the IPR attestation signed, the dupe master in transit. Now we just gotta await the duplication run and inventory shipment...

Below, a BobbyG mp3 sampler for our fans, the Mother of all Hip Snips (I posted it to the podcast page as well):

...It was 1976...
Santa Fe drove into Vegas town,
looking for a gig, had our hair grown long,

You know, we were lookin' kind of scruffy
and rough around the edges,

Didn't know right from wrong,

but the band was strong.

The old school cats didn't dig our look,
in looking at the cover
they judged our book.

They said

"You guys'll never work around here,
you can't read,
you call those instruments?
Do you even own a tuxedo?"

I said,

When the curtain goes up, you'll see,
the bullshit stops.

'Cause when the curtain goes up the,
bullshit stops.
Yes it does...

WORDS OF THE EMINENT PRINCETON UNIVERSITY
MORAL PHILOSOPHER HARRY G. FRANKFURT

Wittgenstein once said that the following bit of verse by Longfellow could serve him as a motto:

"In the elder days of art
builders wrought with the greatest care
each minute and unseen part,
for the gods are everywhere."

The point of these lines is clear. In the old days, craftsmen did not cut corners. They worked carefully, and they took care with every aspect of their work. Every part of the product was considered, and each was designed and made to be exactly as it should be. These craftsmen did not relax their thoughtful self-discipline even with respect to features of their work that would ordinarily not be visible. Although no one would notice if those features were not quite right, the craftsman would be bothered by their consciences. So nothing was swept under the rug. Or, one might perhaps also say, there was no bullshit.

RIC AND JACKIE ARE THE BEST!

Yesterday, our good friend Ric Gould of 97.1 The Point asked me in an email for a copy of the new CD, so I burned him a dub and took it to the studio this morning. They made an effusive big deal of me and the band on the air when I got there, and actually revised the morning playlist and inserted "What'cha Gonna Do With That Greazy Thing" into the 11 o'clock segment. Ric said he'd study the whole disk and put the CD into rotation starting next Sunday.

Ric & Jackie, I owe you two, big-time, minimally dinner at Lindo... :) Maybe one night when Cheryl's back in town, 'eh?

Peeps, y'all really need to make this Sunday morning jazz show a regular radio hang. It's the Real Deal in this town.
