Midweek update Feb 17th

First, Cuz Jojo sent me this...

LOL.

Last night I attended the Board meeting of The Caring Place (TCP), for whom I now do volunteer stuff. One item noted was that sales of Tiffany's new charitable CD "Someday Soon" are now just shy of $1,000. All of the proceeds go to benefit TCP.

Again, short excerpt for ya:

Please buy one. Help out this great cause.

Again (repost), I have agreed to take up the post of "Leader" of what TCP is calling their "Advisory Group." The role is really more aptly characterized as that of a "Talent and Skills Group Coordinator." Beyond day-to-day onsite volunteers, TCP will have need of all manner of talent and skills for various episodic needs and events: e.g., a short draft bullet list:
  • Grantwriting;
  • Fundraising events coordinators and talent;
  • Skilled crafts labor (e.g., electrical, plumbing...);
  • Web/internet;
  • Database mgmt/entry;
  • Photographer;
  • Videographer;
  • Catering;
  • Housekeeping;
  • Printer;
  • Nutrition;
  • Newsletter editor/writers;
  • Healing arts practitioners;
  • "Runners"
  • Donations solicitors;
  • Auctioneer;
etc, etc... you get the idea. The requisite skill/talent sets will extend, really, to any area that would be useful in advancing the cause. Those of you within my extremely talented Vegas arts cohort can expect to get buttonholed by BobbyG. Count on it. Please volunteer. Email or call me (283-1355), You that know me know that I am all about serving others. And, there is no better way to serve than to support those struggling to live effectively while battling cancer.

About town: Tony Davich and Phoenix will be at Mandalay Bay tonight and tomorrow (10 pm). Hot Club of Las Vegas is back at The Bootlegger tomorrow night (10 pm). Also, the Cordle-Scott Band will be throwing down at Johnny Fontane's 2morrow nite, 8pm - 12am. Sahara, between Decatur & Jones.

Click on the links in the "Around Town" links column for more on who's where.

I ain't goin' out tonight. I played 2 1/2 hrs of full-tilt full-court today (on top of upper body weights). I need WD-40 injections in my knees and ankles tonight. Ughhhh...

LOCAL ERRATA

Ritz-Carlton recently announced that they would very soon be closing their Lake Las Vegas hotel. Now, Casino Montelago is also shuttering its doors. Wow. It was fun while it lasted.

Recall Jerry Lopez's awesome 2007 Flamenco nights on the Lake, here, and here. I hope the jazz concerts will go on, but things are lookin' pretty bleak out there. All 3 golf courses are now closed. Retail is next.

"CRAZY HEART" IS NOW PLAYING HERE

I gotta go see this. Anyone wanna go?

Great interview with Jeff Bridges in Rolling Stone, btw.
