May 29th weekend ramble

First, off to the Las Vegas Jazz Connection concert at the Clark County Amphitheater, Nathan Tanouye conducting, Jerry Lopez, guest vocalist. Nathan Tannenbaum, emCee. A great show!

Great show, great crowd. Nathan Tanouye is a genius. The Las Vegas Jazz Connection is a local treasure.

Next up, Phoenix at New York-New York. I left the concert to go check out our brother Tony Davich and the cats...

OK, I'M BACK

Phoenix appeared outside tonight on the "Brooklyn Bridge" along the Strip at NY/NY. They attracted an enthusiastic crowd, and they were seriously throwin' down. I think it was the best I'd ever heard them. Very cool. Lighting wasn't great, but here are some shots.

TUESDAY PM UPDATE

More scenes from a cool (if too short) set...

Yeah, man... Notable tunes included Brother to Brother, Higher Ground, Si Te Vas, Soul Trilogy, and Wishing Well. The cats came ready to throw down, and they delivered the Nast. Thanks are due Sistah Serena Henry and Jerry Jones for sitting in, and to Dave Phillipus for subbing on 'bone and Miguel Rodriguez filling in on bari.

Finally, (below) props are required for our bro' Tim Scott for his kick-butt bass playing and singing with the "Negrita Night" 5-pc lineup (Jerry, Lenny, Jamie, Gabe, and Tim) that opened the night.
