April 27th gig at The Palms

Jeff Ray opened on guitar for Jerry tonight. Awesome as always. Love this cat. Great player, great guy.

OK, moving right along. Time for Fifth Avenue!

Wow, man. That was fine. They did the old "Bread" tune "If", a cappella, and followed it accompanied by a Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns adaption of the Bill Fayne arrangement of "Somethin's Comin'" from West Side Story.

Crowd went wild. Very, very cool.

Other guests onstage tonight, our good bro' Michito Sanchez on percussion, and Nate Wingfield on guitar. Slammin'.

Dave Phillipus subbed on trombone for Nathan tonight. Cat was right on the money all night.

More in the morning. Got a way late start blogging tonight. Stopped off at Smith's at Eastern & Windmill on the way home to pick up a couple of things, and right in the middle of checking out using one of those irritating self-serve checkout kiosks, they had a minor-league robbery dustup. The person who seemed like the only employee on duty chased the perp out into the parking lot, then ran back in to call Five-O, then ran back out, and we're all standin' there, like 'WTF?'

So given my long day (flew back from Walnut Creek today), and the delay tonight. I will have to take up with this again after some Zzzz's. Tired. Got a pretty good inventory of nice shots tonight. Stay tuned...

TUESDAY CONTINUATION

Nice that they pulled out some tunes not done in a while, e.g., "Turn Your Love Around," "Negrita," "San Diego," "Take My Heart Away," "I Feel Good," and the Tower staple "Get Your Feet Back On The Ground." More shots, randomly...

Below, LOL, Phil continues to play on a busted alto. Apparently those rod screws are not shelf items you can just pick up anywhere.

Below, Jamie does his wonderful original song "This Time."

Below, our steadfast friends Danny and Rosa in the house!

Above, after the show with Dr. Lenny, IIRC, this is Christine LaMarca's sister (not sure I got that right). Christine's husband Abe LaMarca will be with Santa Fe this Saturday night at Palace Station (don't forget, midnight, free show!)

April 23rd Midweek Updates

First, Tyriq Johnson (above with Kenny Loggins last fall during Kenny's hang with Santa Fe) appears on Saturday at Texas Station in the Armadillo Room with his group "Jamestown." (They may have billed it as "Serpentine Fire, the EWF Tribute.") 8 pm.

Also on Saturday, first the Brad Cordle eye surgery benefit at King Tut's on W. Charleston (6138, at Jones Blvd.) 2 - 10 pm. After that, Brad and Tim Scott and the cats will appear at The Bootlegger for the late night hang.

The PR firm for Station Casinos issued a very nice press release today (PDF file) for the upcoming Santa Fe gig at Palace Station. Remember, the midnight Saturday gig starts on May 2nd in the Bonkerz Comedy Club. We are gonna crush that room.

TRINA JOHNSON-FINN UPDATE

Local tribute artist Trina Johnson-Finn remains in custody in Suriname in the wake of the "Phony Toni" (Braxton) scam event. Her supporters are planning a benefit show for May 2nd, and are calling for performers to appear (click this link for contact info).

NEXT MONDAY AT THE PALMS

Our bro' Jerry Jones and his fabulous "5th Avenue" vocal group will sit in with Santa Fe. They've worked up some custom charts for the occasion. It will be killer!

ANDREAS ALEMAN

Wow. Mikael, our guest from Sweden, gave me his friend's CD Monday night. Nice stuff, bro'!

THE LATEST UNEMPLOYMENT DATA

The NV trend tapered off below my second-order polynomial trend line just a crack in March (we're officially at 10.4% for March). DETR officials attribute that to people falling off the rolls. Once you've exhausted your unemployment benefits, you no longer "count" -- notwithstanding still being out of a job.

Tough times.

I'M OUTA HERE...
Yummie. BobbyG is off to SFO tomorrow on Virgin America again to go hang with my sweetie this weekend in Walnut Creek (she's back from Asia). I'll be back Monday.
