Most podcasts are in mp3 file format, and will stream via your player while they download. There is an alternate file spec with a ".m4a" suffix, which has a few more bells & whistles capability, but I opted for the straight mp3.
I recommend you use the free QuickTime player for listening. It works on either Mac or Windoze platforms. Download it if you need to and set it as your default browser audio player.
Alternatively, you can just as easily use the iTunes player for podcast listening.
I had some annoying recurrent "re-buffering" pop-up panel interruptions listening to this podcast with iTunes, though, whereas using QuickTime has almost always been quite smooth for online streaming audio.
Other recommendations: lose the Internet Explorer browser. Beyond its chronic security liabilities, it performs glacially relative to FireFox or Safari (the latter being my preference, though I use both).
Of course, all of the foregoing assumes you have a broadband internet connection. Otherwise, piping heavy graphics and audio/video bandwidth throughput is not do-able.

ERRATA ABOUT THE PODCAST
I bought this inexpensive utility, "Audio Hijack Pro," to do audio "stream rips" for music (etc) to put in the podcasts. It simply captures any digital audio signal coursing through my iMac and saves it in the format I specify (e.g., mp3), which I can then dump into Garageband and edit at will. The Suits at the RIAA and their bloodsucker member companies hate apps like this, but it's really no different from saving a web page to disk. Taking such content and re-using it for profit or to otherwise devalue a copyright owner's property value is another matter -- something I would never do (see "Fair Use"). My intent is always the promotion of artists' interests.
Technology, man. Wow.

Mom and Dad and my sister Carole at our house the week before Christmas (that was a long day, but a good one). She just turned 86 today, he's going on 92. Sixty two years of marriage (I do that tune in my solo acoustic book).
As many of you know, in mid-2007 I moved them both out here from Florida so I could continue to look after them without always having to jump on that Delta midnight red-eye route LAS-ATL-MLB. They're both in nursing homes here now. When I saw my Pop yesterday, he was roaming the halls in his wheelchair looking for his room. He can't remember the number, has to see his name on the wall. He's now back into the thing of thinking I'm his brother. As of January 9th I am now his legal guardian.
Cheryl, Danielle, and I went to hang with Ma tonight, took her a chocolate birthday ice cream cake and some cards & gifts. It was nice, all things considered.

I pledged to y'all podcasts starting this year, so, in between my crazed dogs barking and my Mom calling buku times a day (I'll gate the mics), we're gonna discuss and listen to bass players, most notably our favorite cat, Rochon.
Promise you, I'm gonna bust bootie to make this first podcast a good one, even as I learn to use this stuff. I think you'll dig it. Santa Fe Blog Central is now gonna also be Podcast Central. Oughta be fun. At some point I'm probably gonna put my phone on speaker, mic it, and do phone interviews for the podcasts.
Haven't had much time to blog this week. Family Court granted me full legal guardianship over my Pop on Wednesday (man, the paperwork that's gonna entail!), my Mom continues to struggle, and yesterday we learned that Max, our 14 year old cat, has diabetes. Tuesday we're goin' to the vet to get trained on how to give him insulin injections twice a day henceforth.
Don't forget, the band will be again in session tomorrow night at The Palms, 10:30 pm. Be there.

Hector Contreras has always had a love for music. At the age of 5 he began playing the piano and composing songs. His parents woul ask him what he was playing and he would say "My song" Contreras is a native of Los Angeles, Moving to Pasadena 5 years ago with his wife, Emilie. She is not only his biggest fan and supporter, but is in charge of their music production company, Emiliesgarden Music Production.
Contreras admits that practicality overshadowed his dream for a time. He felt he needed to concentrate on his education. So Contreras obtained his Bachelors degree in Accounting from Cal State, Los Angeles and a Master degree in Education from San Francisco University. He became a teacher with the Compton Unified School District. He worked there for almost 20 years and left to work with the Count Juvenile Court System for about 10 years.
However, through the years his passion for music remained strong. He study music composition at the University of Southern California and advance studies with Dr. Albert Harris. And this year(2006 ), Contreras lifelong dream has become a reality! He has produced 3 CD's one is AfroCuban/Jazz and two New Age Music CD's are amazing (www.hectorcontreras2.com and www.hectorcontreras3.com) a total of 14 latin jazz songs and 18 new age songs. All composed by Contreras. He has written well over 200 musical themes. In high school, his first band was a rock and roll band called "Laggerios" Then while he was a senior in high school he played with the Al MESA Latin Jazz Quartet, also with Orquesta "SIVA (Latin Funk). They were the opening act for the Rolling Stones in 1974. In talking with Contreras about his amazing talent, he say, I am just a conduit. All creativity comes from the inner-spirit. Nearly 9,000 individual viewers, almost 20,000 visits, clicking about 32,000 page views (click the image to enlarge). That spike in the early fall was the result of the Bill Champlin/Sons [1] [2] period. Note how the traffic inevitably trails off by the year-end holiday season. "Periodicity."
