April 2nd update

Celeb imitator jailed for being fake
01 April 2009

A Toni Braxton impersonator has been arrested in Suriname and charged with fraud after she turned out not to be the real thing booked for a birthday party. Celebrity impersonator Trina Johnson-Finn has been held by authorities since the beginning of March, after the promoter who booked her for a party concert fled after reportedly cheating organisers into thinking they’d be seeing the real thing. Her publicist insists proof of Johnson’s innocence was established, but his client remains in custody, unable to leave Suriname.

Johnson-Finn said: “I am completely innocent. I was hired to do a tribute imitation act for a birthday celebration.” The bewildered performer had the understanding that everyone knew she was a celebrity look-a-like, and was jolted after attacks with flying objects and misguided accusations. Event contracts, business licences and a number of e-mail transmissions support Johnson’s innocence.

Promoter Angel Ventura of Events 4 Suriname reportedly vanished after the show began, allegedly with the proceeds from the show.

Johnson-Finn’s husband, Raymond, who accompanied his wife on the trip, and was jailed along with her, says: “My wife is a victim, she had no intention of deceiving anyone.” He was released after two weeks, while Johnson-Finn remains in custody indefinitely.

Johnson-Finn’s family and friends have appealed for political help from US senators and congressmen and women.

Just got this email from my friend Elisa Furr:
Trina needs the Las Vegas tribute artistry community to step up to the plate....please help.

We received the email below from Congresswoman Shelley Berkley and although this was a invitation to meet with her on unrelated issues not on our quest to BRING TRINA HOME, Trina's publicist believes this is a unique opportunity to bring a focus onto Trina's plight with our local government and media which could make a major difference in our ability to bring Trina home safely.

If you are not aware of Trina's situation, she is still in jail in Suriname with no end in sight. She did nothing wrong! This could have happened to any one of the Celebrity Impersonators in our industry and I am sure if it happened to you, you would be grateful to any help all of us in the industry could provide.

Therefore, we are now asking you to help Trina.

We want to show up in mass at Congresswoman Shelley Berkley's office at 9:45 AM on Sat. morning to bring major focus to this situation. Trina's husband, Raymond as asked me to get the word out and find out how many of you can join us to support this worthy cause.

Ugly situation. Hope they can get her out. Dicey twist on the whole "Tribute Performer" thing.

Danielle and I went to Blue Man Group last night. Wow.

What an amazing show! Band was smokin' (the drummer in particular). Sign of the times, though -- the place was maybe half-full.

Saturday, April 25th, 2009: A Benefit for Brad

Our singer, Brad Cordle, is facing some surgeries to preserve his eyesight. We're calling on his friends, both inside & out of the Las Vegas musical community, to help get his surgeries covered. We don't have all the details yet but the event is being hosted by the Las Vegas Blues Society, it will feature many of Las Vegas' finest performers including Brad & The Cordle-Scott Band, & will probably include a raffle & auction. This benefit will likely start in the early afternoon & run into the evening.

I went to see Carrot Top tonight at Luxor. I haven't laughed that long and hard in a long time, man. This dude is spectacular. I had to look away a couple of times to keep from going into stomach spasms, I was doubled over laughing so hard.

Dude is way cool, IMO. I dig pumpin' iron, but not like this cat. Of course, I'm old enough to be his Daddy.

And, no, he's not doin' 'roids.

Go see his show. The venue is great, and he is way funny.
